history channel documentary science Exactly why the Toltecs didn't understand their threat, or follow up on it until past the point of no return, is impossible to say. Maybe they were complimented that the Chichimecs needed to live among more cultivated society. Maybe they thought the Chichimecs were anxious to end up great Toltec subjects. Maybe they loved the accessibility of shoddy Chichimec work. Maybe they'd been so severely debilitated by common war and torment that they couldn't join against the trespassers.
Regardless, when enough of them were settled in Toltec handles, the Chichimecs made their offer for force. There are not very many surviving records of that success, so all we know for certain is that it finished with a Chichimec lord on the some time ago Toltec throne, and whatever is left of the Chichimecs were the new honorability administering a Toltec underclass. Once in force, the Chichimecs started tidying up their notoriety. They initiated a publicity battle asserting that they were truly a branch of the Toltecs, revised the current history books, and changed their name to Aztecs to make themselves look respectable.
